The CIBC program is under Student Affairs and within the Department of Campus Recreation. Job site location is at the Channel Islands Boating Center (CIBC). The CIBC is seeking a dynamic individual who has outstanding leadership qualities, open to learning new skills, and ability to work equally within a team environment. This individual will serve as a student assistant teaching sailing/paddling activities and facility maintenance/repair. This individual will serve as an entry-level student assistant and the position offers many growth and leadership opportunities.Job Responsibilities: - Assist with watching small and large groups of adults, and assist with supervising youth. -Assist with equipment cleaning, maintenance, and repair. -Assist with teaching a wide variety of Watersports activities such as sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and other activities. - Promotion of CIBC events and programs through tabling, class presentations, social media, and activities. - Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies both on the water and on land. - Ability to follow all standing operating procedures, emergency action plans, and keep participant records organized and up to date. - Assists in all activities and programs and provides facility support. This includes customer service tasks, answering questions, giving tours, and providing appropriate assistance to students, faculty, and staff. - Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: - No experience needed - CA Drivers license required - Good analytical and problem-solving skills-solving skills and an ability to adapt to changing program needs depending on changes in weather, number of students, number of equipment, etc. - Well-organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and mature individual. - Ensure member, guest, and staff paperwork is being completed by CIBC policy. - Trustworthy and reliable in the handling of confidential materials.- Physical requirements: 1. Position may include but is not limited to, swimming, walking, running, walking or running over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying loads. 2. Able to work effectively in an environment that will involve exposure to salt water, cold water, sun, wind, rain, weather, and other outdoor elements. - Ability to work independently at times and to keep communication with co-workers and supervisors up-to-date. - Must attend 75% of all trainings/ meetings. - Within the first 3 months of employment, obtain the following certifications*: First Aid, CPR, California Boater Card, CI Motor Driver program, and Mandated Reporting training. *Reimbursement available for certifications - Within the first 3 months of employment, complete the CIBC initial Training: Consisting of Front Office Operations, Facility/ Equipment Management, Teaching Fundamentals, and Risk Management. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position. The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements outlined in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
