- Zegar Student Assistant/Peer Mentor at CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentEmployer: CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentExpires: 03/28/2026Purpose of Position:Zegar Student Assistant/Peer Mentor position is designed to improve student engagement, retention andsuccess by providing extra support services to CSUCI students, specifically students who currently receive the JTG Scholarship. These additional responsibilities will focus on targeted student outreach (e.g., registration and retention; peer advising; prospective students; social media; newly admitted students), developing workshops related to best practices in student success and culturally relevant programming, presenting to alumni and donors to increase philanthropic support, and increasing awareness and utilization of student support services on campus.Zegar Student Assistant/Peer Mentor will engage in targeted outreach efforts aimed at supporting JTG Scholars and on an as needed basis, CSUCI students.Job Responsibilities:• Serve as peer mentors to JTG Scholars by way of providing 1:1 sessions, academic success workshops, and assist with navigating the university culture;• Lead student engagement campaigns that support academic success and keep students on track for graduation requirements;• Design and facilitate academic success curriculum;• Share co-curricular opportunities (e.g., internships, research, etc.) with JTG scholars• Refer students to academic resources (e.g., Academic Advising, tutoring) and services (e.g., Counseling & Psychological Services, Disability Accommodations & Support Services, etc.);• Develop peer mentor programming marketing materials and social media campaigns;• Attend team meetings and/or trainings prior to and during the academic semester;• Assist with special projects and events with support from the SASEI Scholarship Coordinator; and• Complete all administrative duties, including base office hours and any other tasks as assigned by SASEI department.Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:• Interest in advancing educational equity, serving as a role model for other students, and working on a student success team• Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate CSU Channel Islands student• Must be enrolled in at least 12 units during time of employment and throughout the term of employment• Must have a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 3.25 and be in good academic and behavioral standing (not on academic or disciplinary notice) with the university• Must be available to work 10-20 hours per week• Strong organizational skills• Be comfortable with public speaking, presenting, and speaking with students• Familiarity with the CI class enrollment process (DPR, CARR, CI Records Dashboard), FAFSA, CADAA and CI resources• Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented and low-income students• Available to work flexible hours and on weekends for special events• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral• Ability to work effectively in a group as well as independently on project tasks with timelines• Effective time management, including, but not limited to being on time for scheduled meetings with professional staff and/or students, allocating sufficient time to the planning of activities; and making efficient use of time• Effective communication with diverse groups of people, including, but not limited to students, parents/families, faculty, staff, and guests• Consistency and persistence in follow-up as well as creativity and willingness to take initiative
- Community Service Officer I at CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentEmployer: CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentExpires: 03/30/2026Purpose of Position:Under immediate supervision, incumbents in this classification work part-time during the academic periods and may work full time during break periods. Police and Parking Services is located at Placer Hall across University Drive from Sage Hall. The incumbent(s) will report to a Public Safety Officer and will patrol all campus property performing escorts, security, parking enforcement, assistance with campus events, and support of Police and Parking Services office staff.Job Responsibilities:Patrol campus property.Enforce campus parking and transportation rules and regulations.Perform community escorts for students in the evening.Assist with campus events.Assist with the completion of parking deposits.Collect funds from dispensers and meters.Perform some office duties including filing.Assist in campus emergency responses.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.Ability to follow established office procedures to prepare and file routine administrative paperwork.Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and enforce established safety and security procedures.Minimum Job Requirements:Possession of current valid California drivers license in good standing, equivalent of one year of customer service or comparable experience, successful completion of background check (applicant will be finger printed), and ability to complete on-line Defensive Driving course. Undergraduates shall be enrolled for at least 6 units and graduates shall be enrolled for at least 4 units in graduate-level courses. Must be in good academic and behavioral standing with the University.
- Alternative Media Assistant at CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentEmployer: CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentExpires: 04/03/2026Purpose of Position:To assist staff supporting DASS with Alternative Media services. Students will perform a variety of specialized tasks using various software for the processing of alternative media materials, including scanning, editing, and distributing alternative media materials. This is 90% of the overall work. Additional duties include but are not limited to data entry, photocopying, filing, and inventorying. Responsibilities & Duties:Provide quality customer service and support including assisting with inquiries in person, online, and on the telephone. Assist with the conversion of textbooks into alternative media formats including scanning, zoning, proofreading, creating accessible file formats, and occasionally making audio files. Assist with the conversion of Word, PowerPoint, and PDF files into accessible documents. Work on research projects. Inventory of equipment when needed. Assist with additional assignments from DASS staff. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Required Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Candidates must be a current CSU Channel Islands student, in good academic and behavioral standing as well as have a minimum 2.50 grade point average. Good working knowledge of PC applications and Microsoft Office including ABBYY Fine Reader, Kurzweil 3000, Excel, and Word. Ability to perform repetitive tasks while sitting for prolonged periods of time. Be able to work during summer and winter breaks, as needed. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, maintaining a high degree of accuracy. Must be able to learn of ADA laws pertaining to the protected rights of persons with disabilities and uphold strict regulations regarding confidentiality. Candidates must have the ability to interact with the general public and the ability to form positive working relationships while interacting with diverse student populations, as well as faculty and staff. Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must have strong critical thinking, organizational and analytical skills. Candidates should have a strong sense of task management, the ability to perform duties with general supervision, and the ability to exercise discretion in judgment and decision-making. Candidates must be able to work during summer and winter breaks, as needed. Ability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during the semester and 35 during the breaks.A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
