Assignments are approved by a specificsupervisor within the academic program/administrative unit.The tutoring program at the Computer Science department at CI aims to serve COMP/IT/EMEC students. The tutors contribute to student success by supporting the independent learning.Assignment:The positions we expect to fill are conditioned on budget and enrollment.Duties & Responsibilities:The majority of work performed by an Instructional Student Assistant is:Instruction – Under appropriate supervision by the course assigned faculty member, implementsfaculty member’s course content and methodology requiring specific advanced knowledge of thecourse content;Grading – Assessment of student work requiring specific academic knowledge directly related to thesubject matter with authority to assign a grade (i.e. test or assignment grades) within a range ofpoints; and/orTutoring – Individual or group instruction requiring advanced knowledge of discipline or subjectmatter.- Provide assistance and guidance to students in course material.- Perform various job-related duties as assigned.- Be punctual for all scheduled tutoring sessions (virtual and/or in-person).Position Requirements:Admission or registration as a CSU student. Incumbents must possess the ability to learn andperform assigned work; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; and acceptresponsibility. Completion of specific coursework may be required in order to teach, grade or tutora course.Applicants must:- Be an undergraduate student at or above the sophomore level- Be in good academic and behavioral standing (not on academic or disciplinary probation)- Have minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75- Be proficient in a wide range of lower/uppper division courses- Have excellent communication skills- Be comfortable working with a diverse student population- Be able to work a minimum of 5 hours a week from Monday to Thursday, 9 A.M. - 7 P.M.Preferred Qualifications:- Supporting upper division courses is a plus.- Previous tutoring experience is a plus.Instructional Student Assistants may work up to 20 hours per week during academic periods andmay work up to 40 hours per week during academic break periods
- Annual Giving Student Assistant at CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentEmployer: CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentExpires: 08/29/2025Purpose of Position:The Annual Giving Student Assistant will work with the Office of Annual Giving in outreach and solicitation efforts. Includes supporting the development, creation, and implementation process of campaigns and partnering with students and organizations on campus. The student will engage supporters of CSUCI through multiple channels, including mail, e-mail, social media, and phone. They will support student crowdfunding and annual giving campaigns such as the senior class gift. Scans and records confidential documents, keeps orderly digital filing system, and is responsible for some research. Other duties include assisting with office mailings, including sorting and stuffing envelopes and running errands. Assist with phone calls, typing correspondence, faxing, and emailing of various documents. Will have opportunities for Internet, phone, and manual research for various activities. Opportunity to learn about non-profit fundraising, marketing, and advancement operation.Job Responsibilities:Daily tasks include, but are not limited to the following:- Supports Annual Giving Team in production and execution of crowdfunding and annual giving initiatives- Enter and maintain donor records in Blackbaud (Raiser's Edge)- Generate donor acknowledgement letters and monitor the online giving portal- Working in GiveCampus online crowdfunding program- Reaching out to students and asking for gifts- Internet based research for updating donor profiles with database- Leading senior class gift committee- Assisting in in-person events on campus for community engagement and solicitationRequired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Student must be an undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior (junior or senior preferred). A successful candidate must have strong administrative skills that include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Canva, Outlook, and databases in general, as well as the ability to learn various computer programs, Blackbaud specifically (Raiser's Edge). Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality. They will also have very strong people skills and enjoy working in an office environment. Ability to obtain University vehicle certification required. - Student Success Communication Coach (STEM Majors Only) at CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentEmployer: CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentExpires: 08/29/2025OVERVIEWHourly wage: $16.50 - $19/hourWeekly hours: 10-12 hours per weekPurpose of Position: Student Success Communication Coaches (SSCC) will support educational equity through strategic communication and student success messaging to improve the retention and persistence of CSUCI students and build community through culturally-relevant programming. SSCC’s will engage with first-time students and new transfer students via student success campaigns to encourage participation in STEM initiatives, access mental health services and attend STEM academic support activities. Through student success campaign nudges, SSCCs will help to streamline communication to targeted students and improve students retention using artificial intelligence. JOB RESPONSIBILITIESCollaborate with professional staff to design and inform the content of Student Success Campaigns (SSC) and conduct outreach follow-up with students as needed;Provide support and serve as a resource to CSUCI students targeted as part of SSCs.Facilitate student success workshops and deliver presentation to CSUCI students;Update and maintain the Knowledge Base and general technical support for staff with the use of Ekhobot, CSUCI’s artificial intelligence chatbot;Coordinate outreach and structured opportunities to connect students to activities and resources that promote a culture of student success and completion;Assist with various multimedia efforts in the department including but not limited to design and production of videos; design, create, and update/edit marketing and promotional materials; manage various social media outlets;Have the knowledge and ability to use outreach curriculum including but not limited to the transfer process, financial aid literacy, student academic success strategies, STEM majors and careers, etc.;Support departmental outreach events and special projects;Attend weekly team meetings and/or trainings prior to and during the academic semester;Assist with program data tracking, reporting, and evaluation of all activitiesComplete all administrative duties, including base office hours and any other tasks as assigned;Support daily studio operations, acquire accurate information to coordinate information to direct management, students, and other campus departments, along with various other duties as assignedPerform other activities that meet department needs as needed.REQUIRED KNOWKEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIESMust be a currently enrolled undergraduate CSUCI studentMust be enrolled in at least 6 units per semester in a STEM major during time of employment and throughout the term of employmentMust have a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5 and be in good academic and behavioral standing (not on academic or disciplinary probation) with the universityFamiliarity with Mac & Windows computers, working knowledge of collaboration software, media productions processes, Google docs and social mediaMust be available to work at least 10-15 hours per weekInterest in advancing educational equity, serving as a role model for other students, and working on a student success teamAvailable to work flexible hours and on weekendsExcellent communication skills, both written and oralAbility to work effectively in a group as well as independently on project tasks with timelinesEffective time management, including, but not limited to being on time for scheduled meetings with professional staff and/or students, allocating sufficient time to the planning of activities; and making efficient use of timeEffective communication with diverse groups of people, including, but not limited to students, parents/families, faculty, staff, and guestsConsistency and persistence in follow-up as well as creativity and willingness to take initiativeDue to federal funding, the candidate must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United StatesOTHERAs a condition of employment, this position may require a background checkIf hired the individual is required to complete appropriate campus human resources trainingsIf hired the person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employmentAll university programs and activities are open and available to all regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin.
