Employer: CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentExpires: 07/01/2025Student Fitness Personal and Group Trainer IV Responsibilities & Duties:Student Fitness Personal and Group Trainer IV (SFPGT) is responsible for private lessons and/or conducts group exercise classes; develops and provides creative and progressive group exercise routines and programs for a variety of skill levels; routines and programs incorporate a variety of currently popular styles which could include kickboxing, hip-pop, step, muscle conditioning, yoga, and Pilates; selects music that has the correct beats and rhythm based on class; promotes correct form, alignment and aerobics dance positions; may assist with special programs, services or projects on occasion; performs other related duties as assigned. Provides support to the staff in CR, specifically assisting the CR Assistant Director of Campus Recreation-Rec Sports, Assistants, Recreational Sports Assistant, Leads, and Attendants. SFPGT will perform routine and non-routine tasks including but not limited to word processing, data entry, e-mailing, copying and filing, preparing forms, aiding in the payroll and accounting processes for the Department, assisting in budget preparation, tracking, sorting and preparing reports, preparing documents for inter-office mail, ordering necessary items for office use, on-campus deliveries and assisting in tracking protocols. Will also require maintaining and cleaning all CR equipment and facilities, and provide customer service including assisting with program inquiries in person, on-line and on the phone and various other general clerical duties. Leading in organizing and staffing of CR events, activities, leagues, and competitions. The SFPGT will work in tandem with the other student staff in the office and provide the necessary coverage. Work locations may include the Rec Center, Potrero Field, North Field, and CI Boating Center. Additional Responsibilities and Duties:Performs member checks by verifying ID's in the Rec Center and other locations.Enforces CR policies and proceduresResponsible for organization and cleanliness of all CR equipment and facilitiesResponsible for set-up and take-down and facilitation of events, activities, and competitions. Including but not limited to: dry dusting, squeegeeing, and mopping("plowing") court as scheduledResponsible for evaluating and reporting on CR events, activities, and competitionsResponsible for communicating with internal and external organizations through tabling, Residential Assistant(RA) meetings, and word-of-mouthOversees all instruction for personal training, fitness classes and organizes participation requestsTeach Fitness sessions as assigned, greeting members with a smile and eye contactEmphasize safety and proper technique.Acquire the necessary CEC’s to remain certified.Maintain accurate records on class statistics when instructing.Select music that is non-offensive and modify selection based on member appeal.Always use positive re-enforcement and display a positive attitude at all times when interacting with members or other staff.Dress in appropriate attire for activity being performed.Assists Assistant Director of Campus Recreation- Rec Sports, Recreational Sports Assistant, Student Attendants and other Student Leads in daily tasks, special projects, and in other duties as assignedSkill Level IV:Under general or job-related specific supervision, completes highly complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge and previous experience. The work is normally within the student's course of study at the senior or graduate level and the employee may direct the work of others, consult with others, both on- and off-campus, and may be responsible for the project/assignment from conception through implementation and evaluation.Required Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Must have experience instructing individual and/or group exercise classes independently and at least one current group exercise certification/training from either a nationally recognized organization (ACE, AFAA, NETA, or comparable), a specialty certification/training from a nationally recognized certifying agency (YogaWorks, Peak Pilates, ZUMBA®, TRX® or comparable), or a degree in Kinesiology or a related field. Candidates must be a current CSU Channel Islands student, in good academic (minimum 2.0 grade point average) and behavioral standing. Candidates should have familiarity with PC computers, data processing, and presentation programs (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel). Requires good written and verbal communication skills, ability to perform duties without supervision, excellent organization skills, and the ability to work with diverse student populations, as well as faculty and staff. Must be trustworthy and reliable in the handling of confidential materials. Must possess a valid American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification. Must have reliable transportation.Day-to-day oversight provided by Nathan Avery (Asst.
